Driver strikes car slowing at scene of separate crash

HUDSONVILLE, Mich. (WOOD) — An accident on I-196 in Hudsonville led to a second crash Saturday night.

Just before 10 p.m., a driver overcorrected after a vehicle braked in front of her and lost control. Her car crashed against the left hand median on westbound I-196 near 32nd Avenue. The driver, 28-year-old Michaela Northuis of Holland, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

About half an hour later, Krystal Cronk rear-ended the vehicle in front of her as it slowed to go around emergency responders who were responding to the first crash. Deputies said Cronk had been reaching for a soda bottle and didn’t notice the car in front of her had slowed.

Cronk, 28, of Benton Harbor, was hospitalized with minor injuries.

The driver of the car that was rear-ended, 20-year-old Jeremy Triemstra of St. Joseph, was not hurt.

Everyone involved was wearing a seat belt.
