HOLLAND, Mich. (WOOD) – Police are investigating the two-vehicle crash that led to the death of a Holland woman Thursday afternoon.
Delores Slikkers died after the crash happened just before 2 p.m. in a passing zone on E. 24th Street between Country Club Road and Waverly Road in Holland, according to a release from Holland police.
A 28-year-old Holland man was driving in the westbound lane of E. 24th Street when he went to make a left turn into a private drive, police said. As he made the turn, Slikkers, who was also traveling west but was in the eastbound lane of E. 24th Street, was sideswiped by the man’s car.
The crash caused Slikkers’ vehicle to leave the road and hit a tree. Authorities said she had to be extricated from the vehicle but died at Holland Hospital where she was taken for treatment.
Investigators said it’s possible Slikkers had a medical emergency at the time of the crash, however, an autopsy will have to be performed to determine her cause of death.
Alcohol doesn’t appear to be a factor. Police continue to investigate the crash.
