Ottawa Co. authorities help family in need

ZEELAND, Mich. (WOOD) – Christmas will be a little bit brighter for a Zeeland family after gifts were delivered to their house Friday night.

The police department, paramedics and members of the Ottawa County Central Dispatch got together and bought toys, clothing, household goods and food for the family.

It was all delivered by a caravan of police cars and ambulances.

The family had been through a house fire, and one of their children was hit by a car earlier this year.

“At dispatch, we talk to these people when they need assistance. So we never get to see them. So seeing them and helping them, giving back. They invest in us as employees of the county so we like to invest back with them. It’s all about community,” said Tammy Smith with Ottawa County Central Dispatch.

On top of all the gifts, Ottawa County authorities were also able to pay for senior pictures for one of the teens and school trips for the others.
