WOOD TV8 now owned by Media General

RICHMOND, Va. (WOOD) – WOOD TV8 is now part of the Media General Inc. family.

Media General and WOOD TV8’s former parent company, LIN Media LLC, successfully completed a merger Friday morning.

The merger makes Media General one of the largest media companies in the in the United States, with 71 TV stations in 48 markets – including WOOD TV8 in West Michigan and WLNS-TV in Lansing. Also included in the merge are WOOD TV8’s sister stations, WOTV4Women and WXSP-TV.

The new Media General engages 23 percent of TV audiences in the U.S., as well as 43 percent of the nation’s internet audience.

LIN Digital, LIN Mobile, HYFN, Dedicated Media, Federated Media and BiteSizeTV are the other LIN Media properties included in the merger.

The Federal Communications Commission approved the merger on December 12.
