GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — This December will go down in the record books as the fourth least snowy in Grand Rapids since record keeping started in the 1880s.
The least snowy December in Grand Rapids was recorded in 1946, when the city saw only half an inch of snow. In December 1947, there was .7 inches of snow and in 1941, there was .8 inches.
This December, an inch of snow fell on Grand Rapids. It’s a sharp contrast to November 2014, which was Grand Rapids’ snowiest ever with 31 inches.
In December 1971, 1.9 inches of snow was recorded, and 2 inches was recorded in 1939.
The snowiest December in Grand Rapids was in 2000, when 59.2 inches blanketed the city. A great deal of that snow fell between Christmas and the end of the year.
