GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A Grand Rapids-area youth all-star football team earned a national championship this week.
The Grand C.I.T.Y. All-Stars — made up of players between the ages of 12 and 14 — won the state title in their first year.
The group then raised $20,000 to pay for a trip to Dallas, Texas to play in the national championship between Dec. 27 and Dec. 30.
Wednesday, they returned home with the national title.
One of the coaches expressed gratitude to the community for coming together and supporting the team.
“People say our city don’t support. And I can stand here and tell you yes, they do,” coach Uriel Tyler said.
