Battle Creek house catches fire after explosion

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — Residents said they heard an explosion before a house caught fire in Battle Creek Saturday night.

Fire crews were called to a house on Lamora Avenue around 7 p.m. after neighbors called 911, saying they heard an explosion and then saw flames coming from the house.

The house is a total loss. Property damage is estimated at $50,000, and damage to the contents of the house is estimated at $5,000.

No one was inside when the fire broke out. The house was up for sale at the time.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
