GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) – Grand Rapids has been named one of the best performing cities in America.
The Milken Institute’s annual “Best-Performing Cities” index has ranked Grand Rapids as the 25th best performing city in America out of the country’s 200 largest cities.
Grand Rapids is the only city in the Midwest and the only in Michigan to appear in this year’s top 25, improving from 48th in 2013.
The report highlights Grand Rapids’ diverse manufacturing base and continued investments in downtown amenities as attractions to high-skill workers. Strong job and wage growth also contributed to the city’s improved standing.
The “Best-Performing Cities 2014” index details where jobs are being created and sustained in cities across the country. The report includes job measures, wage and technology performance to rank the nation’s 200 largest metropolitan areas.
