GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Grand Rapids Griffins are just six games away from the American Hockey League All-Star game and Head Coach Jeff Blashill says they’re finally playing like a playoff team.
At 19-12, they are in third place in the Midwest Division coming off an impressive 5-1 win over the rival Chicago Wolves on Saturday.
During the Griffins’ longest home stand last week, forward Teemu Pulkkinen scored a goal in his eighth consecutive game, tying a franchise record.
Pulkkinen couldn’t make it 9 in 9 Friday because he didn’t play with the Griffins — he had been called up to Detroit.
Another Griffin who will be spending more time with the Red Wings is Petr Mrazek, who will be taking a bigger role in Detroit since goalie Jimmy Howard is out with a groin injury.
Sunday, Blashill stopped by Sports Overtime to talk about the season so far, Pulkkinen and Mrazek.
