VIDEO: Pancake ice at South Haven pier

SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. (WOOD) — Despite recent milder temperatures, ice levels on the Great Lakes have increased this month.

The ice coverage across all of the Great Lakes is just under 25 percent. Ice coverage on Lake Michigan alone is around 20 percent. Ice levels are slightly above average for this time of year.

Pastor Dave Johnson of Kalamazoo Community Church, sent 24 Hour News 8 video of what is known as “pancake ice” at the South Haven pier over the past weekend. To watch the video and hear more from Storm Team 8 Meteorologist Matt Kirkwood about the ice coverage, click on the video player above.
