Man punched while loading groceries, suspect arrested

COMSTOCK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A 63-year-old man was punched in the face by another man while he and his wife were loading groceries into their car.

The incident happened at the Meijer in the 5800 block of Gull Road around 2:15 p.m. Sunday.

Police said the suspect approached the couple and hit the man once in the face knocking him down.

The suspect then walked to his vehicle and drove away.

Authorities were notified when the victim showed up the hospital for treatment.

Police arrested the suspect Monday. The man is from Arkansas, and staying with family in the Plainwell area. Family members notified police, and an officer came out to speak with the suspect.

The suspect was taken to Borgess Hospital for mental evaluation. If released, he will likely be taken to the Kalamazoo County or Allegan County jail, as he is facing charges in both counties.

Police have not released any more information on the suspect.
