GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — With snow being measured in feet across the Midwest and the East Coast in the last week, snowplow drivers have been busy. But, what if you don’t have a service? You figured the snow blower or a good old-fashioned shovel can do the trick most days. And, now, you’re just plain tired or your snow blower couldn’t keep up. There’s an app for that.
A company called Plowz & Mowz offers Uber-like service for plowing snow and cutting grass. It operates in 34 cities across the country. Smartly, they just started in Providence, Rhode Island in the last two days. They also operate in Grand Rapids and Lansing, Michigan where snow piled up on Super Bowl Sunday as well as Buffalo, and Albany, New York. Co-founder, Wills Mahoney, said they’ve done a couple thousand plow jobs in the last two days and they are getting in new ones every 15 seconds.
Here’s how it works:
- You download the free app (plowzandmowz) or you can go online plowzandmowz.com
- You enter you address, driveway information, and when you want your plow
- You get a quote and decide if you want service
- We got a quote for Grand Rapids on Tuesday, February 3 for $35
Pricing will depend on demand, amount of snow and shape of your driveway. The plow does not include salting, sidewalks or deicing. You can also order a plow for a friend, or relative which may come in handy. And, when the plow is done, you get a picture sent to you to prove it.
The company tracks plow drivers who have signed up with them with GPS. When a job request comes in, the company sends out an alert to drivers. Drivers who can do the job or are in the area can accept and they’ll get paid within 24 hours.
Here’s a list of some of the cities where they either plow or mow:
- Albany, NY Area
- Grand Rapids, MI
- Lansing, MI
- Indianapolis, IN
- Columbus, OH
- Providence, RI – last two days
- Buffalo, NY Area
- Tampa, FL
- Nashville, TN
- Raleigh, NC
- Virginia Beach, VA
The company also tells us they have a few systems in place to prevent drivers from accepting a job and then bailing on the customer. Plowz and Mowz checks out each provider with the Better Business Bureau when they sign up with the company. The company has also implemented a rating system for drivers. And, if a provider doesn’t show up, they are terminated and the customer gets his or her money back.
