Woman dies in Muskegon house fire, man critically injured


MUSKEGON, Mich. (WOOD) — An elderly woman has died and a man is in the hospital after a fire ripped through a house in Muskegon Friday night.

The fire happened at around 10:30 p.m. in the 200 block of Orchard Avenue.

According to a news release, there was heavy smoke and flames coming from the two-story house when fire crews arrived on scene.

Firefighters found an 83-year-old woman on the second floor of the home and tried to resuscitate her, but were not able to. The woman was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

A 52-year-old man suffered critical inhalation injuries and was taken to an area hospital for treatment. He was later airlifted to a Grand Rapids hospital for advanced care.

Crews put out the fire at around 1:40 a.m.

The fire remains under investigation and the cause is undetermined at this time.
