PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) — Portage police say they have arrested the man who snatched an 84-year-old woman’s purse Sunday morning.
The Portage Department of Public Safety says that around 9:20 a.m., the woman was walking through a parking lot near the Barnes & Noble at Southland Mall on S. Westnedge Avenue when the robber came up to her, grabbed her purse and then ran north.
A K-9 unit was called to track the robber, but was not successful in finding him. The purse, however, was found a short distance away with money missing from it.
Just after noon, a Portage officer spotted a man that matched the description of the robber less than a mile away from the mall.
Police say that man, a 22-year-old from Holland, confessed and was arrested on a charge of unarmed robbery.
The victim was not hurt during the incident.
