The building was about 75% involved when firefighters arrived, according to Gun Plain Township Fire Department Chief Tom Meert. As of 9:45 p.m., it had collapsed. The building is a total loss.

Late Sunday night, firefighters called in a tractor with a backhoe to start tearing down the building so crews could start tackling the fire inside.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

At least five fire departments responded to the fire. They had to travel about three miles to get water to fight the fire, but Meert said that did not cause a delay or problem. He said crews couldn’t draw water directly from the lake because it was frozen.

No one was at the business when the fire started and no one was hurt.

There were no boats in the building at the time, but there were some motors inside.
