Distribution line problem causes power outage

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Several thousand homes and businesses in four counties were without power for a time Monday night.

The outage was reported to Consumers Energy around 7:30 p.m. By 9:30 p.m., power was back for nearly everyone.

The Consumers Energy power outage map showed that at one point, more than 8,100 customers were without power in Isabella, Mecosta, Montcalm and Newaygo counties. Montcalm County was the most severely affected, with more than 5,500 without power around 9 p.m.

Consumers told 24 Hour News 8 the outage was caused by a problem with a large distribution line in Montcalm County that brings power to several communities.
