2 escape house fire in Allegan County

OTSEGO, Mich. (WOOD) — Two people were able to escape a house fire in Allegan County early Thursday morning.

The fire started just before 12:30 a.m. at a home on 13th Street in Otsego.

When firefighters arrived, the home was engulfed in flames.

Firefighters tried battling the fire inside but had to evacuate and fight the fire defensively due to the intensity of the flames.

Crews on scene told 24 Hour News 8 the fire started in the basement.

The man and woman who were inside the home were able to get out safely.

The home is a total loss.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
