GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — More than 2,000 athletes are expected to participate in the second annual Meijer State Games of Michigan Winter Games over the weekend.
The Winter Games kick off Friday night at Cannonsburg Ski Area with opening ceremonies from 7-7:30 p.m. Opening ceremonies is free and will include a torch light parade, fireworks, a “Big Air” exhibition featuring professional skiers and snowboarders and the lighting of the cauldron.

The Winter Games feature 19 different sports including eight new sports including cross-country skiing, darts, fencing, disc golf, pool/billiards, shooting sports (pistol), weightlifting, and quad rugby.
The events runs Feb. 20-22.
In 2014, the Meijer State Games of Michigan Winter Games offered 12 sports and brought more than 1,600 athletes from 25 Michigan counties to West Michigan.
The 2014 Winter Games also contributed more than $500,000 in direct visitor spending that benefited West Michigan area hotels and local businesses.
