BIG RAPIDS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Deputies are investigating a fatal-vehicle crash that happened on US-131 in Mecosta County early Friday morning.

It happened around 2:00 a.m. on northbound US-131, according to a Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Deputies say a vehicle, driven by 42-year-old Timothy Herlein of Manton, rear-ended a semi that had broken down and pulled to the side of the road.

After hitting the semi, the vehicle rolled over and the passenger, 27-year-old Megan Raven of Cadillac, was ejected from the vehicle.

Raven was pronounced dead at the scene, according to deputies. Herlein was taken to the hospital for life-threatening injuries, the release said.

The driver of the semi-truck was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
