Community, BCPD get 1st look at ‘Battle Creek’

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — A West Michigan city is about to take to the national stage in a new television series.

The show ‘Battle Creek’ won’t hit the air until Sunday night, but the world premiere played on the big screen at the W.K Kellogg Auditorium in Battle Creek on Tuesday.

“We thought it was good, comical and funny,” said Casey Hartman.

She and her husband Chad were some of the lucky viewers who packed the Auditorium.

“I didn’t know what to going into it, but I enjoyed it,” Chad Hartman said.

Battle Creek’s chief of police, along with many more police officers, was also on hand to see the big premiere. He said he liked how the show portrayed the department.

“I loved the input about the lack of resources,” said Chief Jim Blocker. “As a chief, that’s certainly something we’re always talking about. Now it’s right out front.”

Even though the show isn’t shot in Battle Creek, it still has the power to attract people to the area.

The popular NBC show “The Office” was set in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The city says it still sees people coming to the area to look at sites that were talked about or showcased in the show.

“There always an interest in the different locations and the different places that were mentioned in ‘The Office’ over the course of the show,” Susan Estler, the executive director of the Lackawanna County Convention Visitors Bureau, said in a Tuesday phone interview.

“Battle Creek” premieres Sunday at 10 p.m. on CBS.
