LaughFest to attempt another world record

LaughFest organizers join Daybreak to talk about the new record they hope to set this year. (Feb. 24, 2015)

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — LaughFest is asking for the community’s help to break another Guinness World Record.

This year’s attempt will take place Thursday, March 5 at Rosa Parks Circle in downtown Grand Rapids.

LaughFest organizers hope to break the world record for the largest number of people wearing paper crowns.

The current record holder for the largest number of people wearing paper crowns is held by participants at the Sathya Diabetic Centre, at Kanchipuram in Tamilnadu, India.

LaughFest has broken four consecutive Guinness World Records in downtown Grand Rapids.

In 2014, 1,675 people set the record for the most people wearing sunglasses in the dark.

Here’s the schedule for this year’s world record breaking attempt:

March 5 – LaughFest Community Kickoff

  • 5:30 p.m. – lineup begins, pre-activities start
  • 6:30 p.m. – program starts
  • 6:45 p.m. – official attempt to break the existing record

The first 1,500 participants will receive a LaughFest button.

There will be hand warmers and hot chocolate for those who participate in the world record breaking attempt.

The evening will wrap up with a free comedy preview show at the Pyramid Scheme at 10 p.m.

LaughFest runs March 5- 15.
