HASTINGS, Mich. (WOOD) — A former Barry County jail officer pleaded no contest Friday to felony charges related to incidents involving female inmates at the jail where he worked.

Wayne Hoffman pleaded no contest to one felony count of gross indecency in Barry County Circuit Court. His sentencing is scheduled for April 2.

Barry County Prosecutor Julie Nakfoor Pratt had said the complaints did not involve physical contact between Hoffman and the victim. She said he asked one female inmate to perform inappropriate acts on herself and an other inmate.

The incidents started in August of 2013 and continued through December — only two inmates were involved.

Hoffman resigned from his position instead of being fired.
