Fire, explosions at J. Rettenmaier plant

SCHOOLCRAFT, Mich. (WOOD) — There are no reports of injuries after an explosion and fire Saturday at the J. Rettenmaier plant in Schoolcraft, according to the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Department.

Multiple fire crews responded to the plant, located at 16369 US-131, around 12 p.m. on a report of a fire and explosions.

The plant manufactures fiber products used in everything from road construction materials to pharmaceuticals to food additives.

Plant officials and fire personnel on scene declined to comment on the incident.
