HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A two-car crash in Holland Township left one person dead and another seriously hurt.
It happened at the intersection of US-31 and James Street at just after 9:45 a.m. Saturday.
Police say Karolyn Rich, 63, was driving eastbound on James Street when she failed to stop at a red traffic signal at US-31. A pickup truck headed south on US-31 then struck the front driver’s side of Rich’s car. The pickup rolled over.
Rich and the other driver, 40-year-old Brent Groenewoud, were taken to Holland Community Hospital. Rich was pronounced dead shortly after.
Groenewoud was listed in serious but stable condition Saturday.
Police say Rich was not wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash. They did not say why she ran the red light.
The crash remains under investigation.
