2 killed, 4 injured in Eaton Co. crash

VERMONTIVILLE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Eaton County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating after two people were killed and four were injured Sunday when the vehicle they were in went off the road, hitting a tree.

The accident happened around 6 p.m. on Mason Road near Kinsel Highway, according to an Eaton County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Deputies say an Oldsmobile Silhouette was heading southbound on Mason Road when the vehicle went off the road, hitting a tree.

A 15-year-old passenger, Brendan Pearce of Vermontville, was pronounced dead at the scene, the release said.

Five other people in the vehicle were taken to the hospital.

The driver, 31-year-old Melissa Musser of Vermontville, later died from her injuries, according to the release.  A 19-year-old male passenger also sustained life-threatening injuries.

The three other passengers are being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Deputies say alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the crash.
