MARSHALL, Mich. (WOOD) — Thursday marks 11 years since Mary Lands disappeared from her Marshall home and was never seen again.
Lands was declared dead in 2011, but no one has yet been charged in her death.
Calhoun County Prosecutor David Gilbert said there are volumes of reports that are being reviewed and reworked.
Jim Carlin, the private investigator for Lands’ family, said he and the family have no doubt law enforcement is dedicated to solving the case.
“I think this is the year that they are going to charge the person or persons responsible for her murder and disappearance,” said Carlin. “This case is not rocket science, police know who the perpetrator is.”
Carlin has made references to Lands’ former boyfriend, Chris Pratt, the long-time person of interest in the case.
Pratt was paroled in November 2013 after serving more than six years in prison for holding another former girlfriend against her will. He has never been charged in the Lands’ case.
Carlin hopes the family gets closure as Lands’ parents are starting to ail as they get older.
“I worry that one or both of them might go to their grave never being able to put Mary into a final resting spot and grieve and talk to her and laugh with her,” said Carlin.
Family members plan to hold a memorial tribute at Brooks Memorial Fountain in Marshall in the Spring. An exact date will be announced in the future.
