GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Plans for an expansion to popular downtown Grand Rapids venue The B.O.B. are again on hold.
Thursday, the Grand Rapids Planning Commission tabled a request from owner Greg Gilmore for approval of his planned expansion called “The Venue.” They said the current plans aren’t complete enough.
Commissioners say they want the building’s appearance to be more welcoming to the public — current plans have only a side entrance and too few windows, they said. They also asked for changes to the signage.
“They were all excited. They loved it; want more detail. Had we not moved the building 7 feet, we’d be farther along. We’re excited in the very near future,” Gilmore told 24 Hour News 8 after the meeting.
Gilmore has been pushing for the expansion for years. It has gone through at least five different plans.
Gilmore hopes to present more changes to the commission at its meeting next month.
The Planning Commission did sign off on a new microbrewery. Grey Line Brewing Company is expected to move into a building on Alpine Avenue just north of Richmond Street. The two men behind the project both have spent time working at Founders Brewing Company.
