GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Golf enthusiasts may be able to hit the links this month thanks to the recent warming trend.
Opening day at Indian Trails Golf Course in Grand Rapids is dependent on the weather. Not so much how warm it is, but how dry the green is.
Manager Lance Climie said last year the course opened with a few snow banks still on the ground, but most of the course was maintained and dry so they opened.
Climie said they hope to open this month. In the last two years they have only been open one day in March. However in 2012 when March was very warm, Indian Trails Golf Course was open for several days in the month.
Golf Course Superintendent Craig Kooienga said because they had sufficient snow this year they do not anticipate any grass damage. In just the past week the snow has melted from about 8 inches of snow cover to 1-2 inches. The grass appears to be healthy where the snow has melted.
