Police: Wife stabs husband following ‘verbal’ fight

MUSKEGON, Mich. (WOOD) — A 35-year-old Muskegon man died after police say his wife stabbed him in the chest during in argument at their home.

Police were called to the home at around 5 a.m. Saturday in the 400 block of Isabella Avenue, according to a Muskegon Police Department news release.

John Patrick Mahoney was the victim, his family confirmed Saturday afternoon. He was taken to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.

The suspect, 28-year-old Angela Renee Kelsey-Mahoney, was arrested and taken to the Muskegon County jail. She was formally charged Monday morning with open murder and her bond was set at $5 million. She is expected back in court on April 6 for a preliminary hearing.

The incident remains under investigation. Police released few details about the case only saying that the couple had been in a ‘verbal’ dispute before the stabbing took place.

Michigan State Police records show Kelsey-Mahoney has no criminal history in Michigan. Her husband had one conviction listed in state records for operating a vehicle while intoxicated in 2005.
