KDPS officer fired after prostitute IDs him as client

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A Kalamazoo Public Safety officer has lost his job after a prostitute told authorities he was her client.

Officer Craig Jankowski was fired after a Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety and Michigan State Police investigation.

The investigation began in September 2014 when Battle Creek police arrested a 27-year-old prostitute for heroin possession.

An MSP report says the woman and Jankowski first met in April 2014 at the Econo Lodge on Sprinkle Road in Kalamazoo.

She thought Jankowski might be a cop and called the meeting off. However, there were two more meetings at Battle Creek hotels.

MSP says an analysis of Jankowski’s phone lead them to believe that he may have had contact with other prostitutes as well.

Jankowski is currently not facing charges because of a lack of cooperation with the woman involved.

In a statement issued Tuesday afternoon, KDPS Chief Jeff Hadley says Jankowski was terminated by the department in December 2014.

Jankowski has filed a grievance through his union.
