Police officers to coach baseball program

OnBase with GRPD

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) The Grand Rapids Police Department is partnering with the Boys and Girls Club to create a community baseball program for kids in the city. OnBase with GRPD encourages a positive relationship with the community and police officers. With the program, police officers will coach teams of at-risk kids to teach the game of baseball and give children positive interactions with officers in a non-enforcement capacity.

Goodwill of Greater Grand Rapids will be doing a donation drive for the OnBase with GRPD program. All 17 stores in the greater Grand Rapids area will be accepting donations of gloves, cleats, helmets, and other equipment that can be used in the program. Donate any time during the month of April.

OnBase with GRPD will being in June and run through mid-August. The teams will play on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon at Martin Luther King Park and Belknap Park. There is a $5 fee for each participant.
