Not just skiing anymore at Cannonsburg

CANNON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — West Michigan families love hitting the slopes at Cannonsburg Ski Area. Soon, they’ll also be able to hit the water.

“We are so busy and we’re so excited,” said Alycia Choroszucha, the marketing director for Cannonsburg Ski Area.

The recreational area northeast of Grand Rapids plans to build a man-made lake for wakeboarding. Boards will be connected to motorized lines to pull people though the water. Of course, it will come with a beach.

The ski area is also adding 10 lanes on the slopes for tubing.

“It’s actually going to probably be the biggest tubing facility in Michigan,” Choroszucha said.

Additionally, Cannonsburg’s concert venue will get upgrades and a boat and repair shop will be added to the property

“We are tying so hard to make this a destination in Grand Rapids,” Choroszucha said. “There is nothing we want more than giving people a reason to hang out with their family and spend time together.”

Cannonsburg is also hoping to add a large zipline course.

Pending approval by the township, most of the developments will be completed in 2016.
