Sergio Romero's mug shot from the Kent County jail.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A man who was stabbed while attempting to rob a Grand Rapids apartment has pleaded guilty.

Sergio Estevan Romero, 20, pleaded guilty to armed robbery and first-degree home invasion Tuesday afternoon in front of Kent County Circuit Court Judge Lieber.

A charge of assault with intent to rob while armed was dropped as well as a habitual offender charge.

Romero will be sentenced on May 7.

In January, Romero and another intruder, 17-year-old Donovan Moore, tried to rob Ryan Crawford in his Grand Rapids apartment. Crawford then grabbed a knife and stabbed Moore and Romero. The two fled without stealing anything.

Police say the two would-be robbers then called 911 and claimed that they had been robbed and stabbed. Police arrested both Moore and Romero that night.

Moore was sentenced to between 11 and 30 years for armed robbery and between 10 and 20 years for first-degree home invasion.
