GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A new casual dining restaurant has been proposed for downtown Grand Rapids.

On Wednesday, the Downtown Development Authority approved the liquor license for The Wheelhouse, a restaurant that would be located within the Arena Place development which is currently under construction at Ottawa Avenue SW and Weston. OCM Development, LLC, of Meritage Hospitality Group, Inc. is behind the proposed restaurant.

The Wheelhouse would be based upon the “Commit to the Mitt” philosophy of serving locally sourced fresh food.

If approved, the restaurant would employ up to 50 full and part-time employees and be open 7 days a week.

The Wheelhouse still needs to get approval from other city departments including the Planning Commission.
