13-year-old accidentally shoots woman

PENNFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A woman was critically injured when she was accidentally shot by a teen after target practice near Battle Creek.

The incident happened just after noon Monday in the 100 block of Clarence Boulevard in Pennfield Township.

A 13-year-old boy and 19-year-old woman were target shooting behind a home. As they were walking back to the house, the 20-gauge shotgun the boy was carrying went off, the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office said.

The woman was shot in her right arm and torso. One of her lungs sustained damage.

She was rushed to the hospital, where she underwent surgery. She was listed in critical but stable condition Monday afternoon.

Authorities confiscated the gun. They are still investigating.
