MSP: Speed, alcohol factors in fatal Ionia Co. crash

BOSTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A 42-year-old man was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Ionia County Sunday night.

Witnesses told police that a 2005 Buick Rendezvous was heading west on Parsonage Road, east of Darby Road, when the vehicle went off the road and hit a tree around 8:20 p.m.

Emergency crews used Jaws of Life to extricate the driver, Brian Vansipe of Saranac, out of the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said alcohol and speed are both considered to be factors in the crash. It’s unclear if Vansipe was wearing a seat belt.

Michigan State Police are asking anyone with information about the crash to call 855.677.9178.
