STANTON, Mich. (WOOD) — Someone has been arrested in connection to two break-ins in the area where an 80-year-old man was shot and killed, family members of the victim said.
Alan “Dale” Nelson, 80, was found dead in his home on Nevins Lake, west of Stanton, on March 30. He had been shot in the head and chest, according to the medical examiner. Police have said they think Nelson was killed during a break-in, and that they are investigating whether his death was connected to several recent burglaries in nearby Montcalm County lake communities.
Nelson’s family members told 24 Hour News 8 on Monday that someone had been arrested in connection to two break-ins near Nelson’s home.
Michigan State Police say no one has been charged in the murder. It’s not yet clear whether the suspect in the robberies is also suspected of shooting Nelson.
Investigators are expected to release more information Tuesday.
A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the person who killed Nelson. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 517.483.7867.
