Family of man hit by USPS truck, killed sues

WYOMING, Mich. (WOOD) — A Kentwood man is suing the federal government after his family member was hit by a U.S. Postal Service truck and killed in December 2013.

On the evening of Christmas Eve 2013, 77-year-old Louis Vo was struck by a mail truck as he crossed Porter Street in Wyoming. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The postal worker driving the truck was not hurt.

Vo’s family is now suing the federal government. According to documents filed Tuesday in federal court, the postal worker was speeding and the truck’s headlights were off when the crash happened. The suit claims the government is liable for the worker’s failure to drive safely.

The suits says Vo’s family is entitled to a claim under the Wrongful Death Loss Act and damages in excess of $75,000, not including attorney fees and costs.
