GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) – The Grand Rapids Police Department has identified the victim who was found dead outside of a home Saturday morning.

The incident happened at around 3:45 a.m. at a house in the 500 block of Hall Street SW. Police say 34-year-old German Antonio Rodriguez-Duarte was found dead in the yard on the side of a house with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Rodriguez-Duarte is believed to have been from out-of-state. Using fingerprints, police ID’d him and learned he was an undocumented immigrant. They say his fingerprints were in a database because of previous run-ins with the law.

As of Tuesday, investigators had not been able to establish next of kin for Rodriguez-Duarte.

They are talking with witnesses who were in the area at the time of the shooting and releasing his name with the hope of generating some information about the crime, Rodriguez-Duarte and his family.

GRPD is still investigating. Anyone with information about the shooting, Rodriguez-Duarte or his family is asked to call GRPD at 616.456.3604 or Silent Observer at 616.774.2345.
