GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Elite Runner Director Greg Meyer says he’s excited to see the competition between the elite runners due to changes made this year at the Fifth Third River Bank Run.

Greg Meyer, who also won the Boston Marathon in 1983, said by allowing the elite women runners to start about eleven minutes before the men, it will help create a “race within a race.”

For the first time ever, the Fifth Third River Bank Run will also serve as an Olympic Trials qualifying event this year.

Meyer also talked about the potential for storms during the River Bank Run and how weather would affect the race. Watch Meyer’s entire interview with Brett Thomas by clicking on the video player above.
