2015 Fifth Third River Bank Run: Viewer’s guide


GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Saturday morning will be packed full with races in downtown Grand Rapids, as 20,000 runners hit the streets.

“24 Hour News 8 Daybreak: Weekend Edition” will broadcast live from the race start line on Monroe Avenue from 5 a.m. 10 a.m. on WOOD TV8 and woodtv.com.

New Hope Baptist Church’s “Vessels of Praise” choir will kick off the festivities by singing the national anthem at 6:50 a.m.

Here’s the rundown of when each race will begin:

  • 7 a.m.                    5K run
  • 7:40 a.m.              10K run
  • 8:15 a.m.              Handcycle Division
  • 8:16 a.m.              Wheelchair Division
  • 8:18 a.m.              25K Elite Women
  • 8:30 a.m.              25K Elite Men & rest of 25K field
  • 8:50 a.m.              25K myTEAM Triump
  • 9 a.m.                    5K walk

24 Hour News 8 has more than 20 cameras around the course to broadcast the start and finish of every race live.

Daybreak anchors Brett Thomas and Emily Linnert will be joined by Sports Director Jack Doles, Casey Jones and top U.S. finisher at the 2015 Boston Marathon Dathan Ritzenhein.

Storm Team 8 meteorologists Terri DeBoer and Ellen Bacca will be tracking weather conditions throughout the morning. Reporters Larry Figurski, Koco McAboy, Amanda Jarrett and Marc Thompson will be providing race updates along the course.

Throughout our coverage we’ll tell the stories of those who have trained for months to run this race. We’ll also be joined live by 1983 Boston Marathon Champion Greg Meyer, Race Director Kristen Aidif, Grand Rapids Mayor George Heartwell and Michigan Lt. Gov. Brian Calley, who is running the 25K.

After the race, runners will be able to enter their racing bib numbers on woodtv.com and find their complete results. 25K runners will also get an exclusive video clip of their finishing moment.
