Motorcyclist hurt after crash with car

KEELER TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A motorcyclist was seriously hurt in a crash south of Hartford late Friday afternoon.

It happened around 5:30 p.m. near the intersection of 84th Avenue and Second Street in Keeler Township, according to the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say motorcyclist Chester Shirley hit a car that pulled into his lane.

Shirley, 56, of Lawrence was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and sustained multiple injuries including head trauma, the sheriff’s office said. He was taken to Lakeland Community Hospital, where he was listed in serious but stable condition.

The driver of the car, 18-year-old Laura Bailey of Coloma, was not hurt.

The sheriff’s office says it is still investigating whether alcohol may have been involved and was not immediately able to determine whether it was a factor.
