GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Skateboarders are allowed to hit the streets downtown starting Sunday.

The Grand Rapids City Commission on Tuesday approved an ordinance that in part lifted a longstanding ban on skateboarding downtown.

The new ordinance, which passed 7-0, will allow skateboards, long boards, roller blades and roller skates in downtown traffic lanes.

There are some restrictions: Riders under the age of 15 aren’t allowed on the streets, but can ride on the sidewalks. Everyone will have to wear reflective clothing from dusk until dawn.
