‘Blues on the Mall’ gets name change, moves to Delta Plex

Blues on the Mall. (June 18, 2014)

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — After 23 years, the popular Blues on the Mall event has a new name and location.

The WLAV Blues Series is being moved from downtown Grand Rapids to the Delta Plex parking lot and will be called the 97LAV Summertime Blues Series presented by Orion Construction.

WLAV cites several reasons for the change including free parking for cars and motorcycles. Organizers say over the years parking for motorcycles has become challenging with fewer places to park downtown. At the Delta Plex, there will be more parking areas for motorcyclists where they stay with their bikes to enjoy the music.

The new location will also allow attendees to purchase beer.

Organizers say the Delta Plex also gives them the ability to move the show inside in the event of bad weather, so attendees don’t have to wonder if the show is going to be cancelled or not.

This year’s 97LAV Summertime Blues Series is slated to be a 7-date series beginning June 17 and ending on August 12 with West Michigan favorite Walter Trout.
