MUSKEGON, Mich. (WOOD) — Some 65 employers will be looking for workers at the 4th Annual Veterans Job Fair at the USS LST 393 in Muskegon on Friday.
The job fair started out as an effort to help returning veterans who faced an higher-than-average unemployment rate, but after four years attracts people from all walks of life with the promise of hundreds of potential jobs.
With the economic picture in Michigan looking up, there are more employers than ever are setting up on the USS LST 393, waiting to talk with prospective employees.
State Rep. Holly Hughes, who has been involved with the fair since its inception, says the job fair is not just for veterans.
“Last year, one third of the people looking for jobs were veterans. Two thirds were regular folks. So everybody’s welcome. We had a number of Navy SEALs that came through last year, which really got the employers talking,” Hughes, R-Montague, said. “But they really want somebody to show up who has a resume.”
She said 65 companies will have representatives at the free job fair, which is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the USS LST 393 Veterans Museum.
