ROCKFORD, Ill. (WOOD) — The Grand Rapids Griffins won their first road game of the postseason on Thursday, beating the Rockford, Ill. IceHogs.
Playing at at the BMO Harris Bank Center in Rockford, the Griffins won Game 4 of the second-round Calder Cup Playoff series 2-1 in overtime.
The Griffins now lead the series 3 games to 1. They are also 1-3 on the road this postseason, having lost both games in Toronto during their first-round series against the Marlies and Wednesday’s Game 3 vs. the IceHogs in Rockford.
“We understand the ups and downs of the playoffs, the emotions, rollercoaster that you’re going in the playoffs. Our guys know how to handle that, so I’m not concerned about that,” Griffins head coach Jeff Blashill said before Thursday’s game. “I really believe we’re going to come out and play a lot better. With that said, though, we’re still going to have to execute and make the plays it takes to win at critical moments. ”
“We have a lot of guys who have been through adversity in these playoffs before, so I think that helps when you get into a position where you’re playing well for a while and you drop one game — it’s not the end of the world,” Griffins defenseman Brian Lashoff said. “We have to go and we understand what we have to do. We’re not getting too low. We’re a confident group in there, so for sure we’re going to come out tonight and play hard.”Tweets by @GriffinsGameDay
