Man who allegedly hit neighbor with shovel charged

DELTON, Mich. (WOOD) — A Delton man is being charged with second-degree murder for allegedly hitting his neighbor in the head with a shovel last year.

Michael Curtis is charged with second-degree murder in connection with death of his neighbor, 43-year-old Brian Sutherland. His bond was set at $400,000.

The assault happened on the night of Oct. 3, 2014 on Pike Road in Delton. Deputies said at the time that a dispute had escalated until a man hit his neighbor in the head with a shovel.

Sutherland died on Nov. 4, 2014 as a result of the injuries he sustained when he was struck.
