WHITE CLOUD, Mich. (WOOD) — “I just want truthful answers. I want to know why he did it and what happened.”

The mother of the 4-month-old girl who was found dead in her grandmother’s basement says she won’t have closure until she gets the truth from Matthew Bradley.

24 Hour News 8 heard from the baby’s mother Brittany Rich for the first time Thursday after Bradley was arraigned on a felony charge for concealing the death of 4-month-old Natallya Rich.

But Rich said the charge isn’t strong enough and until she knows what happened, she won’t have closure.

“No, I just want truthful answers. He’s strung me out through so many lies that I just don’t know what to believe anymore.”

Rich said Bradley told her on Monday that Natallya was at his sister’s house and he was going to pick her up and come home. However after he left, she says Bradley refused to come home.

“I kept begging him and begging him just to bring him home –- then once he didn’t come home his sister finally told me she never had her,” said Rich. “She told me that he told her she was at some girl’s house in the trailer park that he knew that I didn’t know.”

Rich said she didn’t call 911 at first because she believed Bradley that Natallya was at his sister’s house. Once she found out that wasn’t the cause, she said she went out looking for her baby in the trailer park and then called 911 when she couldn’t find her.

Police began searching for Natallya on Tuesday, but the White Cloud police chief said he didn’t push for an Amber Alert because he didn’t believe Natallya was in danger.

While the search was going on, Rich and Bradley spent several hours at his family’s home in Morley as his family tried to get the truth out of him on Natallya’s whereabouts. However they were unsuccessful.

Rich said she didn’t find out about her baby’s death until police caught up with them Tuesday night.

“I didn’t hear anything until I was being transported from Mecosta to Newaygo. The cop said ‘Your boyfriend just told my deputy that she is dead in her car seat in the house,’ while I was in handcuffs in the car being transferred over.”

The cause of Natallya’s death remains unknown.

When asked if she thought Bradley would ever hurt Natallya she replied,” “No. I thought he loved her. He made it seem like he loved her.”

Rich admits that she knew Bradley was using drugs, but thought he was done.

“When I was pregnant with her he hid it for a long time. Then I found out and he tried to go get himself clean –- he acted that he was clean. I found out after she was born that that was all a lie too. He’s a really good liar.”

“He needs to start telling the truth. I want answers to why this happened to my baby.”

Court documents 24 Hour News 8 obtained after the interview with Rich show Bradley admitted to police that he took a nap with her and woke up to find her dead. He was to scared to tell anyone and then put Natallya’s body in a car seat and brought her to Rich’s mother’s house where he put the car seat in a crawl space in the basement, court records show.
