ANTWERP TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — A prosecutor says psychiatrists have concluded that a 23-year-old man is incompetent to stand trial in the fatal stabbing of his 57-year-old aunt at their home in southwestern Michigan.

Van Buren County Assistant Prosecutor Mike McKay tells the Kalamazoo Gazette that the Center for Forensic Psychiatry has concluded that Logan Amstutz lacks the capability to go on trial.

The sheriff’s department says Amstutz called 911 on Nov. 23, 2014, from the house in Antwerp Township and told a dispatcher he attacked his aunt and he believed she was dead. The department says it arrested him after finding Janet Amstutz dead.

The home is about 10 miles southwest of Kalamazoo.

Amstutz is charged with an open count of murder. He’ll remain at the center and will undergo treatment there.
