2015 Memorial Day parades in West Michigan

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich (WOTV) —  Many community parades happen every year in West Michigan to celebrate Memorial Day. Here’s a list of parades for 2015.

FRIDAY, MAY 22

St. Joseph – Starts at 12 p.m. at Lake Boulevard and Park Street.  Procession will travel down Lake Boulevard to the John E.N. Howard Bandshell, where a short program will be held.

MONDAY, MAY 25

Caledonia– Starts at noon at M-37 and Main Street. Parade will originally begin at 9 a.m. in Alaska, move to Blain at 9:45 a.m., then on to Dutton at 10:30 a.m., will then move to Holy Corners at 11:15 a.m., and finally end at noon in Caledonia.

Douglas  Starts at 10 a.m. at Center Street to Beery Field.

Freemont – runs 6:00pm until 7:30pm, Starts at the Fire Barn on Main street and ends up at Veterans Memorial Park, Fremont.

Holland Starts at 9:30 a.m. at Eighth Street and Central Avenue to Columbia Avenue.  Procession travels south to 16th Street then east to the Pilgrim Home Cemetery, where a brief ceremony will be held.

Ionia – The parade is set to kick off at 10 a.m., and members of the VFW will be gathering downtown at approximately 8:30 a.m.  The parade will start at the Armory in downtown Ionia at the corner of Main and Dexter streets, where the opening ceremony will begin.

Jenison – Starts at 9 a.m.  at Baldwin Street and 20th Avenue.  Procession travels along Baldwin St. from 20th Avenue to Cottonwood Drive.

Lowell – Starts at 10 a.m.  on historic Main Street.  Procession will turn north onto Washington Street, ending at Oakwood Cemetery.

Kalamazoo – Starts at 10 a.m.  begins Downtown on Michigan Avenue and ends on Gull Road in front of the cementary with a Memorial Day Ceremony at Riverside Cemetery following the parade.

Mecosta – Memorial Day Parade steps off at 11:00 a.m. The parade will begin Downtown Mecosta and concluding at the VFW Hall where refreshments will be provided.

Muskegon – Greater Muskegon Memorial Day Parade starts at 9:00 a.m. with a vintage plane flyover! Starts at Morris Ave. near 2nd St.and ends at Clay Ave. @ Hackley Park.

Muskegon – Lakeside Memorial Day Parade starts at 10:30 a.m..  Steps off at Lakeshore Drive @ Bourdon St. and ends at Lakeside Cemetery on Crozier Ave.

Rockford – Starts at 9 a.m.  at the Rockford Community Cabin, 220 N. Monroe

Saugatuck – Starts at 9 a.m. on Butler Street.  Procession winds through  downtown to the Kalamazoo River, where a wreath will be thrown into the water.  A ceremony at the downtown war monument will follow

South Haven – kicks off at 9am, beginning at Center Street and Michigan Avenue and continuing to Phoenix Street to Bailey Avenue, then north on Bailey to Lakeview Cemetery where a ceremony will take place around 9:45am. At 1pm, there will be a sloppy-joe lunch, free of charge, at the American Legion!

Wayland – Starts at 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Procession begins at the Wayland State Police Post, 544 N. Main St., and will conclude at the Wayland VFW, 735 S. Main St.

Walker – Walker Memorial Day Parade starts at 12 p.m. The parade route will be on Lake Michigan Drive between Lincoln Lawns and St. Clair NW.

Zeeland – Starts at 9 a.m. on Main Avenue at Centennial Street.  Procession will travel west to State Street, south to Central Avenue and east on Central Avenue to Maple Street.  A ceremony will follow at Lincoln Street Cemetery.

SATURDAY, MAY 30

Grand Rapids Starts at 12:00 p.m..- New route: stepping off at Monroe & Lyon. The parade will then head south on Monroe, southeast to Monroe Center, south briefly on Division and east on Fulton to end at Veterans Park.
